The Black Girl Project is seeking committed interns to help engage and grow our existing community. We are a community organization that utilizes the arts and culture to disrupt/interrupt the prevailing narratives about Black women, girls, and femmes. Outlined below are 3 internship descriptions, details on how to apply and an overview of what you can expect from The Black Girl Project.

Time Commitment

The Black Girl Project is looking for someone who is willing to make a 3 month commitment of 5-7 hours per week (minimum) to help us grow our organization. Please confirm acceptance of this commitment in your cover letter.

The Black Girl Project Exchange Program

For your time, you will receive:

  • one 90 minute career and/or academic development coaching sessions per month from an Advisory Board Member
  • free access to any workshops, labs, and events launched during the time of your commitment and for 3 months thereafter
  • a letter of recommendation from The Black Girl Project
  • development of your professional skills and the opportunity to grow a an amazing community
  • the opportunity to build your resume
  • lots of love and support from The Black Girl Project!

Intern Position #1 | Content Curator & Social Media Assistant

The Black Girl Project is looking for a social media maven who can grow its 3000+ Twitter followers and 4300+ Facebook likes, increase user activity, and carry The Black Girl Project’s empowering message through the internet. This person will keep Twitter and Facebook followers up to speed with all the latest and greatest news, information, and quotes from The Black Girl Project.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep up with all relevant Twitter and Facebook worthy news to share with our followers.
  • Stay informed with social media (Facebook and Twitter only)
  • Post 5-7 curated content daily on Facebook and Twitter
  • Post appropriate content
  • Work with our Executive Director to share important content from The Black Girl Project
  • Retweet, repost and share empowering feminist, female and femme-of-centre voices

Intern Position #2 | Community Connector (Local)

This position is for someone who is based in New York and is interested in developing their networking, research and collaboration skills. The Black Girl Project is seeking a volunteer who is outgoing, has the gift of gab, and has connections with various  organizations and social justice groups around the city.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive list of 50+ groups / organizations in the Greater NY Metro Area to connect with about facilitating workshops and labs.
  • Develop a comprehensive list of NY Metro area-based grants that are applicable to our work.
  • Help The Black Girl Project book connect with 10 or more orgs.
  • Handout flyers and promotional materials around the city.

Intern Position #3 | Community Connector (Online, National, Worldwide)

This position is for someone who is interested in developing their networking, research and collaboration skills nationally and globally. The Black Girl Project is seeking an intern who is outgoing, has the gift of gab, and an abundance of fresh, exciting and creative ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive list of 75+ bloggers / online entrepreneurs / podcasts / web shows / etc. to connect with for collaboration.
  • Come up with a list of possible topics to pitch as collaboration topics.
  • Develop a comprehensive list of NY Metro area-based grants that are applicable to our work.
